Resident Engineering Inspection Services For the Construction of Roadways, Curbs, Sidewalks, Water Mains, Storm and Sanitary Sewers In Edgemere Area, Borough Of Queens
JED Engineering was retained as a sub consultant to provide resident engineering inspection for this major infrastructure project. The extensive subsurface work consisted in the construction of new storm sewers ranging from 24” RCP to 7’-0 by 5’-0” and 8’-0” by 4’-0” FTRC. The storm sewers outlet into the existing outfall on Beach 49th Street. The project also included the construction of 10” and 12” ESVP sanitary sewers. All sewers and appurtenant chambers were installed on piles – timber piles for the most part, mini steel pile on the south side of Beach at the intersecting streets due to LIPA overhead primaries and Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) on Beach Channel Drive between Beach 49th and 50th Streets due to the proximity of an existing trunk sanitary sewer. Shallow sewers were encased in concrete as per NYCDEP standards. Also included is the installation of a 20” DIP and 36” steel water mains on Rockaway Beach Boulevard between Beach 45th and Beach 49th Streets. Streets within the project area were fully reconstructed with 3” asphalt on 9” or 6”concrete base (for the two east-west thoroughfares and the side streets respectively) on a 6’ open graded sub-base. Such reconstruction included new integral curb and gutter (since the longitudinal grades of the streets are for the most part less than 1%), catch basins, temporary drainage structures at affected driveways, street lighting, and landscaping.
Construction Cost: $45.9M
