PROGRAM AND CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT FOR THE WASTEWATER RESILIENCY PROGRAM NYCDEP CONTRACT RLCY-PRGM
JED Engineering is serving as a sub-consultant providing construction inspection services for DEP’s 14 Wastewater Treatment Plants and 42 Wastewater Pumping Stations that were flooded during hurricane Sandy. This contract will address a projected increase in flood risk stemming from continued sea level rise due to climate change and more extreme storm surge events, enforcing the need to harden DEP‘s wastewater infrastructure to reduce the probability of damage, service disruptions, and environmental impacts from surge events.
DEP intends to further this initiative by applying a combination of the following general adaptation strategies at many of its wastewater facilities throughout the City:
- Installation of temporary and permanent barriers,
- Flood proofing of buildings with the addition of sandbags and the flood-proofing of MEP equipment
- Raised elevations of critical equipment
- Installation of emergency backup power
